Client: Municipality of Scandiano (RE)
Location: Scandiano
Completion: Piazza 1° Maggio in 2009 and Piazza Duca d’Aosta in 2016

The scope of the project in question concerns the redevelopment and paving of Piazza 1° Maggio and Piazza Duca D’Aosta in the historic centre of Scandiano (RE) and also includes the surrounding streets.

The project unites the two originally irregular and discontinuous squares – Piazza 1° Maggio and Piazza Duca D’Aosta – into a single space generated and designed based on a recurring geometric layout, which characterizes and measures the new urban landscape by harmonizing it with the elements of the surrounding buildings.

The materials used are in continuity with the existing (porphyry, Luserna stone, granite, river pebbles), maintaining the formats, texture and finish of the streets, while completely reinterpreting them in the squares.

The green areas have also been completely redesigned. In a central position in Piazza 1° Maggio, a flush fountain has been inserted symmetrically – in relation to the ideal axis of demarcation between the squares – with the war memorial, which is in turn the fulcrum of Piazza Duca d’Aosta.

The public lighting system has been completely overhauled and the network of technical subservices has also undergone radical modifications.
