Restoration and seismic upgrading

The project concerned the recovery, restoration and seismic upgrading of the parish church of San Giorgio in Luzzara, which was severely damaged by the 2012 Emilia earthquake. Completed six years after the seismic event, the project included architectural and structural design aimed at securing the building and restoring its functional use.

The design was developed from an analysis of the existing structures and original construction techniques. The restoration and conservation work was planned to preserve the building’s authenticity, with targeted actions on the damaged areas and improvements to its seismic performance.

The project addressed structural and conservation issues in an integrated way, with the aim of restoring the stability of the church without altering its historic identity.

The interior spaces

Following the structural and architectural restoration, the project also included supervision of the lighting system, painted decoration restoration and liturgical adaptation, completing the enhancement of the building.

The construction phase was managed through construction supervision, ensuring technical control and consistency between the design and the completed works.
