Expo Milan 2015 – Nigeria Pavilion

Architectural concept

The Nigeria Pavilion for Expo Milano 2015 was developed to represent the country’s cultural, social and economic identity, in line with the Expo theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”. The project translates these values into a system of architectures distributed across the site in a balanced way, creating a clear and engaging visitor experience.

The concept is based on the combination of different elements organised to enhance both the architecture and the use of outdoor spaces.

Spaces and project symbols

The design is defined by a sequence of elements with different functions: exhibition spaces, food areas and spaces for events and performances. The core of the project is the exhibition pavilion, conceived as a large “boat” inspired by the traditional Nigerian pirogue.

This element takes on a strong symbolic role, interpreting the theme of travel as a passage from tradition to modernity, while expressing the role of resources, food production and economic development in the country’s future.

Sustainability and environmental quality

The project integrates solutions focused on environmental sustainability, with a significant presence of green surfaces and systems designed to support CO₂ absorption. Green roofs and tropical gardens, together with water-saving devices, help improve the pavilion’s overall environmental performance and the quality of spaces for visitors.
