As projects become increasingly complex, coordinating different specialist skills becomes more and more important.
This was one of the central themes of the conference held at SAIE Bologna 2026, the trade fair dedicated to the construction supply chain.
The discussion highlighted the importance of involving specialists at the right stage and of reviewing design choices before construction begins.
Representing CAIREPRO, an OICE member and engineering company, President Nello Tafuro took part in the debate:
“Neither full delegation nor the illusion of self-sufficiency, but a design coordination process that involves specialists at the right time. Designers cannot expect to know everything, but nor can they fully delegate the definition of individual systems to specialists. Their know-how must contribute to building a coherent, performance-based and truly buildable project. The construction site should not be the place where design is completed.”
The conference brought designers, specialist companies and trade associations around the same table, offering different perspectives on the challenges facing the construction supply chain.
Thanks to the organisers, the moderator and all speakers for their contribution to the discussion.
