The origins of CAIREPRO

On 28 November 1947, a group of young students from the Politecnico di Milano introduced a new approach to design, founding the Studio Cooperativo di Costruzioni Civili, now CAIREPRO, the first cooperative of intellectual professionals in Europe, and possibly worldwide.

A model based on collaborative expertise, shared decision-making, and a strong sense of responsibility toward the people and communities it serves.

A new identity

The company evolved under the name Cooperativa Architetti e Ingegneri di Reggio Emilia, formally establishing an integrated approach that brings architectural and engineering expertise into a single, shared framework.

1961

National recognition

The “Unità di abitazione” (eng.” Housing Unity”) project in Nebbiara (Villaggio Architetti, Reggio Emilia) received the INARCH Emilia-Romagna Award, establishing the company’s presence at a national level.

Architecture award

The social and qualitative value of the completed projects is recognized by the Gold Medal for Architecture awarded by the Province of Reggio Emilia.

Breaking down barriers

CAIREPRO extends beyond national borders, launching major hospital and hospitality projects in Kenya and Somalia, and winning international architecture competitions in Turkey, Spain (Tenerife), Algeria, and Morocco.

Operational structure

The organization is structured into two dedicated divisions: Urban Planning and Building Design, enhancing coordination and project efficiency. This reorganization marks a key step toward a more structured project management approach, strengthening collaboration across disciplines, and the ability to address more complex and large-scale interventions.

Design culture and heritage

In memory of founding partner Osvaldo Piacentini, an archive named after him was established as a non-profit foundation, dedicated to research and architectural culture, promoted by local institutions to preserve regional identity.

Energy and sustainability

The company’s activity expands into the energy sector, with trigeneration projects and energy retrofitting interventions on complex buildings. This area has become a consistent part of CAIREPRO’s project portfolio.

A new international phase

A new phase of development begins with the establishment of CAIREAFRICA, a Senegalese company fully owned by CAIREPRO and based in Dakar. This step marks the start of the first architectural projects in Senegal and West Africa and consolidates the company’s international presence.
