Building systems upgrade in a monumental context

Within the historic Ca’ Granda complex, a landmark of Milanese Renaissance architecture, the project concerns the full upgrade of the heating and cooling plants, with the aim of reducing energy consumption and improving comfort while respecting the architectural and monumental value of the site.

The project included on-site surveys to document the existing conditions, energy analyses and integrated building systems design, with careful attention to introducing the new solutions without altering the historic identity of the building.

Climate control upgrade

The project introduces well-water source heat pumps and a geothermal system consisting of extraction and reinjection wells, connected to the plant rooms through underground pipes.

For climate control, the project includes the replacement of 44 air handling units with systems equipped with high-efficiency heat recovery units, together with the implementation of a BMS — Building Management System — for automatic regulation and centralised control of the building systems.
