Architectural design of the campus

The project for the Université Alioune Diop Campus in Bambey was developed following the award of an invited competition and concerns the masterplan and architectural design of the new university complex.

The design approach was based on an analysis of the local climate. The study of prevailing winds and solar exposure guided the organisation of the volumes and the architectural solutions, with the aim of supporting natural ventilation, shading and environmental comfort across the campus.

Bioclimatic architecture and spatial organisation

The project introduces architectural elements designed to respond to the local climate. These solutions help reduce direct solar exposure and improve natural ventilation within the buildings.

The masterplan includes approximately 1000 beds distributed across seven residential buildings, organised around the campus shared spaces. The buildings include functions supporting university life, such as laboratories, study rooms, recreation areas and student services.

The project also includes three service buildings — a university canteen, an administrative centre and a medical centre — designed to complete the functional system of the campus.
