Education
The Learning Village project was developed for an international competition for a new educational space in the village of Djilakh, in the Thiès region of Senegal.
The concept imagines a campus organised around a central shaded square, the Shade Plaza, conceived as a place for meeting and interaction. From this space, the learning pavilions and outdoor activity areas extend outward, creating a radial system that integrates architecture, landscape and community life.
The project adopts passive bioclimatic strategies to respond to the local climate: verandas, natural ventilation, ventilated roofs and rainwater collection systems help improve environmental comfort and reduce energy demand.
The construction approach favours local materials and replicable modular solutions, with the aim of creating sustainable architecture that is easy to maintain and adaptable over time. The masterplan also integrates gardens, orchards and spaces for agricultural activities, strengthening the relationship between learning, place and community.
