Education
Within the Innovation Park of the former Officine Meccaniche Reggiane in Reggio Emilia, the project concerns the full regeneration of “La Cattedrale” – Capannone 17, originally used for heavy industrial production.
The project involves the recovery of a disused building through remediation, consolidation and building renovation, with the aim of restoring new functionality to one of the most representative structures of the historic industrial area.
The building will retain three of its original facades, maintaining a direct connection with the industrial memory of the site. Demolition works involved the north front, which will be replaced by a new, more open and permeable elevation, designed to strengthen the visual and functional connection with the internal square of the Capannone and with the already regenerated parts of the complex.
Inside, three levels will be created for university, school and research functions. The spaces are organised around a full-height central volume, which distributes the vertical connections and defines the identity of the new building.
The roof will be reconfigured with a flat slab, designed to accommodate the building systems and support the technical management of the facility. The project will create an NZEB building with high energy efficiency, conceived for the future of education and innovation.
Project funded by the National Innovative Programme for Housing Quality.
