Seismic safety and works on existing buildings

The project concerns the seismic upgrading of the Arco-Este and Pitentino High Schools in Mantova, two historic public school complexes under heritage protection, made up of building sections constructed in different periods from 1920 onwards and gradually connected over time. The daily presence of more than one thousand people and the critical issues identified through the seismic safety assessment required a coordinated design approach across the different parts of the buildings.

The structural works involve floor slabs, roofs and load-bearing masonry walls, with targeted solutions to improve stability and strengthen the connections between the different building sections.

Particular attention was given to the internal junctions between the various building volumes and the surrounding structures, as well as to the upgrading of the external steel staircases, adopting low-impact solutions compatible with the characteristics of the historic buildings protected by the Superintendency.

Integrated design and BIM coordination

The work covered the final and executive design phases, integrating architectural and structural aspects with the design of electrical and mechanical systems and safety coordination during the design phase.

The BIM methodology supported the development and coordination of the project, facilitating the management of the different disciplines and the verification of the main clashes and technical solutions.
