Educational spaces and continuity with the outdoors

Within the new school hub in Modena, the Magenta Nursery is designed to accommodate 64 children in a system of flexible spaces integrated with the landscape.

The final architectural and fire safety design defined a compact and permeable building, where each section includes an atelier, rest area and child-scaled toilets, with direct views onto the garden through large glazed openings.

The internal layout is designed to support both individual and group activities, with furniture and equipped walls that allow different educational approaches according to age.

Environmental performance and urban integration

The building is designed according to bioclimatic principles, with particular attention to controlled natural lighting and protection from direct solar exposure. Its energy performance exceeds NZEB requirements by 20%, ensuring high efficiency and reduced consumption.

The project also includes the executive design of the new school canteen, sized for 200 pupils, whose final design was developed by Zamboni Associati Architettura. It forms part of a wider programme that also includes the regeneration of Rodari Primary School.

The project also provides for the integration of public lighting along Via Magenta and the upgrading of pedestrian routes with tactile paving for visually impaired users, strengthening accessibility and the quality of the urban space.
