New radiotherapy unit

At the Santa Maria Nuova Hospital in Reggio Emilia, the project involved the reorganisation and upgrade of the department dedicated to tomotherapy and MRI, to accommodate new diagnostic and treatment equipment.

The new facility, located next to the main hospital entrance, is partly underground and includes the tomotherapy bunker and related support spaces. The unit is connected to the existing hospital building through stairs and a lift, designed to ensure accessibility and continuity with the rest of the complex.

Architecture and spatial quality

The project is defined by an aluminum-clad structure, combined with contemporary materials, contributing to a renewed architectural identity for this part of the hospital campus.

Particular attention was given to the quality of interior spaces. The connecting volume allows natural light to reach approximately seven metres below ground level, improving the perception and comfort of the underground areas. The project also included the set design of the refurbished treatment rooms and support spaces for clinical activities.
