The project involved the restoration of the Parish Church of San Bernardino in Novellara, with the aim of restoring the building’s full functionality. Built in the second half of the seventeenth century and established as a parish church in 1705, the church was declared unsafe after the seismic events of May 2012.
Preliminary activities included a laser scanner survey of the entire complex, allowing the precise acquisition of the geometries of both internal and external spaces. This provided the basis for the following design phases, which also included building systems design and safety coordination during the design stage.
The project included a coordinated series of works aimed at improving the structural behaviour of the building while preserving its construction characteristics. Works included the strengthening and stiffening of floors, the replacement of damaged timber beams and the renewal of the roof covering.
Particular attention was given to the consolidation of vaults and arches, the repair of cracks and targeted works to prevent possible collapse mechanisms. The construction phase was managed through construction supervision, ensuring consistency between design, safety and the protection of the historic building.
