Public space regeneration in the historic centre

The project included architectural design and construction supervision for the regeneration of Piazza 1° Maggio and Piazza Duca d’Aosta in the historic centre of Scandiano, together with the adjacent streets. The focus was on reconnecting two formerly separate urban areas, creating a unified system that gives order and a clear identity to the whole district.

New urban layout and material continuity

The design is based on a recurring geometric pattern that organises proportions, routes and relationships with the surrounding buildings, making the ground layout the main tool for shaping the public space.

Materials were selected in continuity with the existing context. Traditional formats and finishes were maintained in the streets, while in the squares they were reinterpreted through a new composition. Green areas were redesigned to become part of the overall system and improve its clarity.

Urban elements and infrastructure

A flush fountain was placed at the centre of Piazza 1° Maggio, aligned with the war memorial that forms the focal point of Piazza Duca d’Aosta, strengthening the connection between the two spaces.

The project also included the redesign of public lighting and the reorganisation of underground utilities, integrating infrastructure into the overall design and improving the function and quality of the urban space.
