In the historic centre of Scandiano, the project involved the regeneration and repaving of Piazza Spallanzani, one of the city’s most significant urban spaces, dating back to the sixteenth century.
The design process started from the requirements expressed by the client and from the contributions gathered during public meetings with citizens and local business associations. The aim was to strengthen the role of the square as an urban centre, improving quality, usability and safety while respecting its historic configuration.
The new paving was designed in material continuity with the adjacent streets, ensuring adequate load-bearing capacity for vehicular traffic and effective rainwater management.
The project included an ordered reorganisation of traffic flows and parking areas, the introduction of green elements and a complete redesign of public lighting, with the aim of supporting safer pedestrian use in line with the historic value of the square.
