2024 -
Industry and Logistics
The project for Pizzoli SpA, a leading company in the production of fresh and frozen potatoes, is located on the site of a former disused sugar refinery in San Pietro in Casale, Bologna. The decision to reactivate an existing industrial site made it possible to limit land consumption and continue a development process already started with the construction of the logistics hub in 2017.
The project expands and completes the production system, strengthening the organisation of the site in a coherent and progressive way.
The building was conceived as a single industrial volume integrating all production functions. The processing and packaging line is located in the central volume, around which support areas and technical services are organised in a clear and orderly layout.
The facility is mainly arranged on one level, alongside a multi-level service block dedicated to technical spaces and support functions, while a separate external volume houses the technological plants.
The design integrates systems aimed at reducing consumption and recovering process waste. The biodigester makes it possible to reuse the organic component generated by potato processing, producing thermal energy to support the plant.
The heating system was developed according to a recovery-based approach, reusing heat generated by the production processes and reducing the need for external energy supply.
The project included a careful study of the surrounding context, preserving existing trees and introducing new planting.
Green areas become an integral part of the project, supporting the architecture and improving the experience of both staff and visitors.
The project continues a process started in previous years with the construction of the logistics hub, consolidating and expanding the production system in a coherent and progressive way.
The design covered architectural, structural and fire safety aspects, developed in close relation to the industrial process and safety requirements. The project was followed through to the execution phase, with construction supervision.
