Public mobility and urban connections

The proposal was developed for the design competition for the Parma Metro. The system was designed to respond to public transport demand, improve connections between the city’s main urban functions and expand the catchment area identified in the competition brief.

The route runs along the edge of the historic centre, using the spaces of the large nineteenth-century avenues and the Parma riverfront system. This approach makes it possible to serve the central areas while limiting interference with the historic urban fabric and supporting faster connections along the city’s main crossing axis.

Route and accessibility

The route is planned in a shallow tunnel, a solution adopted to reduce the impact of the works on the city compared with a deeper underground infrastructure and to support the integration of the route within the urban context.

Where possible, the stops are designed with level access between platform and vehicles, making boarding and alighting easier for passengers. The configuration of the route and stations is designed to reduce travel times and ensure high transport capacity, combining service speed with vehicle capacity.
